Dave & I “met” on October 28, 2008, at the Manhattan office of MLB.com, where we both worked at the time. If that date sounds familiar, it’s because our wedding date is also the four-year anniversary of the day it all began.
Before then, Dave and I resorted to ninja moves (and the Internet) to find out anything we could about each other, which wasn’t much. For months, I would pass by Dave’s desk on the way to the kitchen and try to catch his eye if he looked up. As Dave tells it, when he had his pick of seats in the office, he chose the only one in his cube with a view of a certain Photo Editor’s path to the kitchen.
Either of us would tell you that before a single word was exchanged, we somehow knew we were meant to be.
On that day in October of 2008, Dave- then a marketing producer- sent an e-mail to the Photo department down the hall. Predictably, the only Photo Editor on duty answered it. The conversation flowed immediately, making up for all the missed opportunities. It was quickly discovered that we were both in Washington D.C. the weekend prior- Dave was running his first marathon and I was taking engagement photos for a college classmate. Dave jokingly said, “I was very disappointed that you weren’t at the finish line to congratulate me!”
Our relationship began right then. We confirmed it was true love when, only a few days later, I admitted that my favorite food was bacon and Dave stopped dead in his tracks to make sure he heard that right.
And I haven’t missed a marathon since.
